On both occasions, they arrived no more than 15 minutes after I placed the request via the AAA app and on both occasions (George the first day; Bruce the second), the service was terrific. My car broke down on the highway in Old Saybrook and the police arrived S my boyfriend was checking it. They called MAL Towing for us. The driver, Johnny, was absolutely awesome! Being disabled, I couldn’t get up into the truck, but he waited until my boyfriend and I went to the police station (they wouldn’t let us stay by the side of the road). He assisted getting me into the police vehicle as even those seats are too high. The he pulled the car up on the flatbed and got my AAA card.The card was expired but I thought the number was the same and expected no issues. However, when he got to the garage we selected (40 miles away!), when he called AAA for a billing code, they said I didn’t have an account! He tried calling my boyfriend first, who didn’t hear him because he was too busy yakking with the Uber driver. This was all around midnight, 1 am. He then called me and we got it straightened out on a three way call with AAA. However, I can just imagine the stress he went through, dealing with this crazy situation (tow truck drivers aren’t normally called upon to assist the handicapped, the amount of time spent about how to transport me, etc) and then, when he calls AAA for the charge number, they say I don’t have an account! He must’ve thought we scammed him after he was so nice. But it did get straightened out and he remained professional and courteous throughout. I had unwittingly parked in the tide zone and found water up to the body when I returned three hours later. I slogged into the car and turned on the engine, but could not shift out of park. The water must have screwed things up. The tide was still coming in, so I feared for my car. But the person I spoke to at Mal's was able to talk me through how to manually unlock the gear.
