UPDATE: The owner states that a diagnostic fee is "usual and customary". I agree - I have no problem with that. BUT I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT MY CAR WOULD BE DIAGNOSED. I came in for an alignment, and I repeat: I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT MY CAR WOULD BE SUBJECT TO ANY DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE, AND I WAS NEVER TOLD THE FEE FOR THAT DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE.

The owner states: "You even asked if you’d have to pay the fee if we did the repairs and we told you no." This is not entirely true. Since I was suprised at having to pay a fee when NO work was actually done to my car, I asked if this diagnostic activity would have been done (and billed) if the shop had ALIGNED MY CAR. I was NOT referring to the mechanical work that was quoted - which was exorbitantly priced.

The owner further states: "This is posted in our office right at the front counter where you sign consent for repairs/diagnostics."

REALLY?? To place total responsibility for keeping customers informed of any fees on the presence of an alleged "sign" at the front counter is COP-OUT. You need to TELL the customer if/when charges and fees will be made. I am NOT the only customer who has complained here about your "surprise" fees, so maybe that alleged "sign" at the front counter is not sufficient notification.

You need to realize that I didn't come in for a "repair". I came in for maintenance service - an alignment. I don't think it's the same thing, but you apparently treat them both the same, with an automatic "diagnostic" procedure that was NEVER mentioned to me. Needless to say, I won't ever be back.'>

Comment : UPDATE: Owner stated the following:
"If you feel that the fee for looking at your car to give you an estimate on repairs is unfair, and we do apologize if you were not verbally informed of this fee, as is our custom to do, we will refund you this fee." I ABSOLUTELY WAS NOT VERBALLY INFORMED ABOUT THIS FEE AND THEREFORE SHOULD GET A REFUND. HOW DO I GO ABOUT GETTING THAT REFUND? I thought about going back to the shop in Pooler, but I have no desire to get into any difficulty with your staff there.

AVOID THIS PLACE. Judging from a couple of other comments I have now read, they have a habit of NOT INFORMING YOU WHEN THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FOR SOMETHING. I brought my Lexus RX300 in for an alignment. Now, this is an older car (in very good shape), and the woman NEVER, EVER MENTIONED THAT THERE WOULD BE A CHARGE FOR SIMPLY ***LOOKING*** AT MY CAR. She never even mentioned it when she called me on the phone to say that they needed to do almost $4,000 worth of work on my car before it could even be aligned. I declined the work they recommended because I WILL NOT fork out $4,000 without getting a second opinion, and then I was SHOCKED to see that they still felt the need to charge me $68 for "inspection"!!!!! HERE'S A TIP FOR HOME TOWN AUTO CARE: CUSTOMERS DON'T LIKE TO BE SURPRISED WITH A CHARGE THAT THEY WERE NEVER INFORMED ABOUT BEFOREHAND. If you're lost in Pooler, don't ask for directions at this place - THEY'LL PROBABLY CHARGE YOU FOR THEM.

Comment : My truck broke down in Savannah during a golf trip. I managed to get it to Home Town Auto Care. They took the vehicle that day and worked late that evening to repair it. I was back on the road the next day! The price was very reasonable and everyone was friendly and helpful. I highly recommend HTAC for your auto repairs and maintenance!

Comment : I took my 1997 Chrysler Sebring here so they could find and fix an oil leak I was having.the car was in the shop for about 3 days they called and said my car was done. They said there would some left over oil drops until the oil would burn off. Two weeks later the oil leak was now bigger so I decided not take my car back to them and I went somewhere else. What was found was that the gasket on the valve cover was stretched out of shape and was not lined up with the bolt holes. The problem was fixed the oil leaked stopped. I went by hometown auto to let them know about the problem I had gave them a copy of the bill and and a picture of the stretched out gasket I was told they would get back with me once they talked to the owner. I was not expecting anything other than ok we are sorry. But I have not heard anything from them as of this review.i have taken my cars to them on a few occasions but in the future I will not be going back and will be going to whitton auto repair from now on.

Comment : I called this shop due to the possibility that my catalytic converter replacement would not be covered by the dealership (it eventually was). I was called back one hour later with an estimate, an explanation on why the estimate was so high due to the expensive nature of the part, and the employee did research to help support my argument that the dealership should replace the part under an emissions warranty. Very impressed by their honest work.I called this shop due to the possibility that my catalytic converter replacement would not be covered by the dealership (it eventually was).
