I then took the car to a Lexus specialist in Birmingham. He looked the car over and found out that the fuel tank was installed incorrectly which caused the fuel to leak out of the evap system (which ended up ruining my evap cannister. That had to be replaced), the fuel pump was installed incorrectly and with a cheap aftermarket pump which was causing the limp mode and power issues, and the catalytic converters that were installed by Graves were incorrect and are what is causing my car to report a lean condition. $5000 later at this Lexus specialist and my car is finally running and driving properly. I still have a lean condition from the improper cats, but the car runs great.

Comment : I see all these positive reviews and have to wonder if our experience was just an anomaly. Over $6000 and our car was returned in worse running condition than when we brought it in. Our experience was bad from start to finish at Graves. We brought our Lexus in to have a misfire diagnosed and to have the timing belt and water pump service performed. The car had definite fueling issues. Graves performed the timing belt/water pump service then proceeded to attempt to fix the misfire. The car sat at their shop for over 6 months while they went from part to part replacing different components to try to fix the misfire. All of the following was performed:
• Right bank cam position sensor replaced
• Coolant temp sensor replaced
• Upper and lower intake manifold gaskets replaced
• Catalytic converters replaced (they said the old ones were melted)
• Fuel filter replaced twice
• Fuel pump replaced twice
• Fuel tank removed and cleaned (showed signs of corrosion and debris in tank)
• Original fuel injectors cleaned and flow tested
• Fuel injectors and seals replaced with new after cleaning the old ones didn’t make a difference (New injectors are OEM Denso injectors)
• Fuel dampers replaced
• ECU tested by SIA Electronics. Showed functioning properly with no bad capacitors.
• Valve cover gaskets replaced
• AC refrigerant recharged
• New tires mounted and balanced

At this point we received the car back. I put the car up on our home lift and noticed half the bolts were missing from the catalytic converters, the fuel filter was not secured to the car, and the evap hose from the fuel tank was missing a clamp causing it to leak, and the splash shield that covers the bottom of the engine was now missing. I would have not seen any of this if I did not have access to a lift. The car was now leaking fuel out of the evap system overflow under the front bumper of car when filled above ? tank, had a fuel smell inside the car when tank was full, was very hard to start when up to temperature, and would also occasionally refuse to rev above 3000rpm while under load. Felt like some sort of limp mode. None of these were issues when we brought the car in originally. We took the car back to Graves Auto for them to fix these issues. They then performed the following work:
• Installed a new splash shield under the engine.
• Installed the missing hardware from the fuel filter and catalytic converters listed above
• Replaced fuel tank with a used tank from a parts car
• Replaced fuel pump again with a Delphi brand pump (Old pump was reading 33psi)

We received the car back again and no longer could smell fuel inside the car when the tank is full, but all of the other issues persisted. The car was still leaking fuel from the evap overflow if the tank is above ? full, was still very hard to start when up to temperature, sometimes will not rev above 3000rpm under load, and is now throwing a P0171 code for running lean on bank one.

At this point we just took the car back and gave up on Graves' ability to fix the issue. I paid over $6000 to receive the car back in worse shape than I sent it in.

Comment : I was shocked to learn at the local auto part store that my battery replacement in my truck was not a simple fix. I could have fixed it at home, but I had no way to get back and forth to the auto part store and needed to get to work. Graves took great care of me and they were able to work on my truck as soon as I walked in the door. Very kind and worked quickly to get me back on the road.

Comment : While traveling to our honeymoon, our car suddenly sprung a coolant leak and left us stranded. By an act of God, we found ourselves closest to Graves Auto Service and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to land.

Patrick and Nathan prioritized getting our car looked at first thing in the morning, and thanks to them, we were only delayed by one day. Even though they didn’t have the exact dealership part on hand, they came up with a clever clamp fix to get us back on the road safely. They went above and beyond by showing us exactly what broke, giving us the old elbow piece, printing out a picture of the part to order once we got home, and even pointing it out inside the car so we’d have no confusion later.

Their professionalism, honesty, and care for travelers in a tough situation was outstanding. We are incredibly grateful for their help and highly recommend Graves Auto Service to anyone in need.
