Comment : We picked up our Tahoe from Dover Chevy on Friday morning following a service appointment, just before leaving for Albany, NY, for a soccer showcase. Shortly after beginning our trip, we noticed a strong, toxic odor. At first, we assumed it came from another vehicle, but after about 1.5 hours—and repeated complaints from our 10-year-old about a headache—we realized the smell was coming from our own car.

The odor intensified, and we were forced to drive with the windows down. During the trip, we also noticed the transmission temperature fluctuating between 198–206?F, whereas it typically runs around 175?F. I called Dover Chevy immediately and was told that while the temperature was concerning, it was still (just barely) below the 220?F maximum. I also explained the severity of the smell and was advised by your staff to bring the vehicle to the nearest Chevy service center.

Upon arriving in Albany, we brought the Tahoe to the Albany Chevy service department, where technicians were alarmed to find oil, transmission fluid and grease coating the entire underside and rear of the vehicle. They confirmed that a significant amount of oil had already burned off, despite our oil change having been completed just the day before. The service technician strongly advised us not to drive the vehicle until the source of the leak could be determined.

As a result, we were forced to rent a vehicle from Enterprise to attend the four soccer games we had driven to Albany for and by then I had already had to miss one of the games while at Chevy & Enterprise. After approximately eight hours, we returned to pick up the Tahoe. The Albany technicians were unable to identify the precise source of the leak and instructed us to return the vehicle to Dover Chevy for further inspection.

This situation created a dangerous and toxic environment for my family and represents a serious service failure. Dover Chevy is directly responsible for the issues that occurred immediately following your service, as well as for the expenses incurred as a result.

It is also important to note that this is not the first time we’ve experienced a service error with Dover Chevy. Last year, your team broke our oil dipstick, causing an oil leak that damaged our tiled driveway.

The issue continues and your locations tech explained that what happened to us usually happens when too much transmission fluid is added which causes a lot of damage to other parts of the car and eventually leads to larger failure costs.

Note this tahoe is a 2022 and has never had an issue until this service location.
