This shop charged me $365.98 for a REMANUFACTURED alternator and the higest cost I found anywhere else was at the Lexus dealer and that price was about $175.00 for a brand new unit. I also found prices for both new and remanufactured units a auto parts stores, such as Auto Zone, that I could have spent anywhere from $100-110 for a new unit and even less than this,$75-85.00 for a remanufactured alternator. When I contacted AAA I was told that if I took this car to a AAA Certified repair shop I would get 10% off of parts and another 10% off of labor. However, I was NOT told that this discount was for up to a maximum of $25.00 for parts and $25.00 for labor. So, I think I was mis-led by the AAA agent. The shop also charged me an additional $69.50 for a diagnosis of the issue on top of the high part cost. Even the AAA tow operator told me that once he put the portable battery charger on the car and it started and eveything operated...in fact he actually drove the car onto the flat bed...that the problem was the alternator. So, the additional charge fo $62.50 was unnecessary and mostly just a way to run up the bill. I have been a member of AAA for over 40 years and this is the first time I have even been so dissatisfied with the service I received.
