Comment : Avoid Coughlin Dodge Marysville – Lied to try and Intimidate Me into a Bad Deal
I went to Coughlin Dodge Marysville to test drive a 2024 Dodge Hornet. I knew the car wasn’t great, but I figured I’d give it a chance if they could match the competitive offers, I’d found at other dealerships. Instead, I walked into a high-pressure, dishonest sales environment that wasted my time and insulted my intelligence.
Despite having very good credit, they quoted me a sky-high 11% APR, way out of line with the rates I was being offered elsewhere. I was clear from the beginning that I would only allow a soft credit pull, and I confirmed this with them multiple times. After finally agreeing, they turned around and claimed they had run a hard credit pull, even though they hadn’t, just to scare me into signing a deal I didn’t want. That’s a disgusting tactic.
When I questioned it, Sales Manager Mark Myers acted like it was no big deal and used the supposed credit hit to try to bully me into closing. He had a smug, manipulative attitude the entire time.
I then clearly explained the out-the-door price I was willing to pay, based on accurate taxes and real numbers, not inflated with shady fees. Mark responded by saying I “clearly don’t know how to do math.” I actually work in finance, and I had calculated the numbers precisely. What I wasn’t doing was playing along with his game.
To top it off, they tried to charge me documentation fees over the legal Ohio limit of $387, quoting me fees in the mid-$400s. That alone should be a dealbreaker.
When I declined to move forward, Mark became hostile and loud, berating me for not seeing what a “great deal” he was offering. Even the saleswoman, Kristen, looked shocked by how aggressive and unprofessional he was acting.
Mark clearly saw me, a 25-year-old who just moved to a new state, buying a “new” car for the "first time" and thought he could take advantage of me. He failed. I took my business elsewhere, got a better deal, and was treated with respect.
If you want honesty, professionalism, and basic decency, stay far away from Coughlin Dodge Marysville. Lying about a hard credit pull to pressure a customer is beyond unethical, it’s predatory. This dealership does not deserve your business.
