Comment : Brought my f-150 in for diagnosis after it overheated while driving. Upon dropping it off I checked the coolant level and observed it to be very low which indicated it must have a leak somewhere in the coolant system. The following day Chuck?s reached out and stated they determined the issue was caused by a bad thermostat and coolant temperature sensor. Neither one of these items would have explained the leak, and a bad coolant temperature sensor brings on an entirely different set of symptoms which I was familiar with from having one go bad the year prior. It should be noted, the initial diagnosis also mentioned that the transfer case was leaking fluid. I asked about the coolant leak and the employee responded by stating he didn?t like the diagnosis made by the tech and he would have a different tech look at it?I received a phone call several hours later and spoke with a tech who said the cause of the issue was the thermostat. I asked that tech directly about the leak and he said the truck was not leaking coolant, he even went on to claim that he did a pressure test on the coolant system which confirmed it was not leaking. I?m not an auto expert, but I know enough about cars to know that coolant doesn?t just disappear. If it is low then it is either leaking or going into the motor. Based on my doubts I decided to pick the truck up and bring it elsewhere. I received a discounted rate for the diagnosis which was appreciated by me at the time. I brought the truck to a Ford Tech and explained the symptoms to him. The Ford Tech did a pressure test while I was present and immediately determined my truck was leaking coolant from a bad fitting and that coolant was running down the motor and dripping off of the transfer case. The leak that Chucks determined was from the transfer case was actually the coolant leak that they denied the truck had. If I didn?t have the basic knowledge of automotive that I do, I would have believed Chucks and spent over $700 on repairs that would not have even addressed the issue. I?m not sure if it is incompetence or bad business but either way I would never bring a vehicle to them again.
