I’ve been a loyal customer for about 10 years but this experience was completely unexpected. I took my car because it has trouble starting. They charged me $159 and didn’t fix it. They told me make a video to document when it doesn’t start after they charges me. I felt very taken aback. 1 Reviews Daniel dixon Kingwood, TX Reviewed : 04/07/2025 Comment : I don’t want to leave this review but I’m hoping someone will see it and avoid what happened to me. One star reviews are something I typically won’t bother doing. However, I feel this is important.I found CBA online through their high reviews and they seemed great. It was easy to schedule a time to come in and the customer service was fantastic. Unfortunately that’s the only positive item I can state about my experience. As I was scheduling my call I asked them for a quote, which was anywhere between $300 to $450 between a diagnostic and replacing the broken coolant thermostat. When I walked in to drop off my car I was greeted with some very friendly folks at the desk. Again, I can’t emphasize enough, they were nice. That said, they immediately began to upsell an additional service and to their fairness I believe it was a good call. It was an extra test to ensure my coolant system wasn’t leaking. Given the nature of my repair, this was relevant. However, I wished they had told me about it beforehand since it was an additional $100. Not a huge deal by itself but it added to what became a disappointing experience.Later in the day they sent me text messages with links to the full diagnostic test and a finalized quote. I was flabbergasted. What was supposed to be anywhere between $300-$450 was, at minimum $815. I couldn’t believe it. That did not include the additional services they were recommending. The most egregious being the spark plug replacement. For context, iridium tipped spark plugs, typically considered some of the best, can run $10-$20 each. My car needs four of them so at most I would be looking at $80 worth of parts. Replacing spark plugs takes maybe 15 minutes. They are incredibly easy to do. Most places will charge about $200 to replace my car’s spark plugs. CBA quoted me $583 to replace my spark plugs.Seeing that floored me. I couldn’t believe it. Additionally, they discovered my CV boot was leaking. It’s an older car so it makes sense and I’m glad they caught it. I’m not glad they quoted me $1,420 for it. I called a mechanic I have used and trust to get their opinion. He said a typical CV assembly replacement (boot, axle, bearings) would range between $450- $550 at his shop for my car. That was confirmation enough that CBA’s prices are 2-3 times as much for a standard mechanic. They are nice and very friendly. I don’t believe they are intentionally or maliciously deceptive. It was a very large disconnect in communication. I expected $450 at most based on my first phone call. That set my expectations to what they priced their services at. However, as soon I came in, it quickly became apparent that did not reflect their actual prices. Additionally, I have no idea how they can charge almost $600 to replace four simple spark plugs. It’s wild.Lastly, to reiterate, they were friendly and I genuinely believe are good people. However, given their prices are 2-3 times the market rate and the “upsell tone”, I will never take my car here again.Edit: I feel this is important to add. After my experience at CBA I ended up taking my car to a well known and well trusted mechanic I’ve used multiple times. I wish I was in a position to have taken my car to him in the first place but unfortunately since we’ve moved, he’s not the most convenient to get to. However, he examined my car, specifically the CV boot. He came back and informed me that there was nothing wrong with it. He went over the area in detail and found no leaks. I don’t believe this was intentional but it could have been a very costly mistake if I had chosen to get it replaced with CBA. That would have been an additional $1,420 which would have been unnecessary. 1 Reviews Christopher breedlove Kingwood, TX Reviewed : 04/04/2025 Comment : If zero stars was an option, that's this place. They try to upsell you on everything, based on what you're driving. They quoted me $16,000 after I went in for a diving condition on hard braking. Wanted to rebuild the entire front end, replace all four shocks. Took it to the dealer next day, they rebuilt the shocks replace the sway bar, end links, and good to go for less than 2K. This place is a rip off. Took it in for a state inspection also, I discovered three non-existent codes after I picked up the truck literally the day before from the dealer for a thorough inspection to ensure that it would pass the state inspection.
