Comment : Informative post: beware of whom you trust to work on or service your car and where you buy cars from.
A few years ago, my husband's truck broke down and we had it towed to Chip's Auto in Pennsville. I had previously had vehicles worked on at Chip's garage and purchased cars from him. My mother had also dated Chip for a few years, so I assumed he was trustworthy. We were told the repair would cost $600 and that a new battery was installed. However, we later discovered it was the same old battery. We didn't make an issue of it and moved on. Fast forward to January or February this year, my husband's truck engine seized. We needed a new vehicle ASAP, so we decided to visit Chip's Auto Center again. Chip told us he had a Trailblazer that he had just lowered in price from $4500 to $3500. We agreed to purchase it, and Chip took our other truck as part of the deal. We put $1500 down and were supposed to pay $213 monthly until the balance of $2900.00 due to taces and fees was paid off. However, the car turned out to be a lemon. It had many issues, including a high idle, faulty brakes, a check engine light that came on three days after purchase, and random dashboard lights flashing. The car also burned a lot of gas and oil. Despite these issues, we continued making payments. In June, I asked Chip if I could skip a payment, and he agreed. However, when I made a partial payment in June, I was told I was overpaid and didn't owe anything. Then, in July, Chip called me saying I still owed for June and needed to come make good on my account. I made a payment of $320 cash on July 24, but didn't receive a receipt. On August 18, Chip called me again, but I didn't answer. On September 12, Chip showed up at my house with a tow truck, demanding the key to the car. He claimed I owed $1575, but I disputed this, saying I was only one month behind at most. Chip refused to work with me, and I eventually had to walk away from the car. I will never recommend Chip's Auto to anyone again. The lesson learned is to always get a receipt and not assume anything. Don't trust everyone, especially when it comes to buying or servicing a car. Keep in mind the balance of 1575.00 is what is owed to pay the car completely off!
