I found Albany Light Truck and Auto online and read several reviews before calling to schedule an appointment. My appointment was scheduled for this past Wednesday. I dropped off the car Tuesday night.I did not hear from the garage for most of the day on Wednesday and called them around 2 in the afternoon. I was told that they hadn t gotten to it yet, and if they didn t get to it they would call me the next day (Thursday). When I scheduled the appointment, they scheduled it for Wednesday. I did not hear back from then until Thursday afternoon around 2pm. It s a hassle to drop off your car for a quote or repair. I had an appointment for Wednesday that was clearly not honored. The quote that they gave me for the repair was for over $2000. This was about $1000 more than the dealership. I told them that I would not like to have the work done and that I would pick the car up. I picked up the car that afternoon and to my surprise they charged me for their estimate for $85. The labor charge for the estimate was for .5 hours.I took my car to a shop the same evening to have it looked at for a third opinion. The shop told me that my car is actually fine and not something that needed to be addressed. They said that if they owned the car, they would not address the issue at all. It is not urgent and my car could probably run just fine for the next 200,000 miles without a problem. If the problem did eventually need to be addressed, they said it would be around $1000.After receiving a quote for over $1000 from the dealership and over $2000 from Albany Light Truck and Auto, I seriously started to think that I may need to think about getting rid of my car vs. putting more money into it.I thought I did my homework online to try to find a reputable shop to work on my car, but I clearly made a huge mistake. I would not recommend Albany Light Truck and Auto to anyone based on my experience. They did not honor the appointment that I made with them, charged me a very high labor rate for an estimate, and gave me a quote that was $1000 more than a dealership. It was a mistake for me to take my van to them. After receiving a quote for my minivan from the dealership where I purchased my minivan for over $1000, I figured I would look for a second opinion from a local independent garage that worked on Chrysler minivans. The receptionist told me they don???t do quotes w/o having to pay to have the car looked at. But they gave me a quote on top of the head anyways. It was ~$1,000 to replace rear brakes and rotors. 2x the amount the dealership quoted me (~$500). Don???t trust them.7 years ago: Around of applause to them. They fixed my beloved car right up in no time at a nice price. They made sure I was complete satisfied and involved every step of the way.12/17/24: I came in for a quote.
